The new Super Smash Bros. game looks awesome. Its supposed to debut on the Nintendo Wii, at around the beginning of 2007. Theres already a trailer out for it, featuring some returning characters and some new faces as well, such as MetaKnight (Numerous Kirby games), Pit (Kid Icarus, NES), Wario (Numerous Mario and Wario games), Samus Aran without her battle suit, and the only 3rd party character announced, Snake, from the Metal Gear Solid series.
The returning characters include Mario, Kirby, Link, Pikachu, and Samus w/ her armor.
An added bonus, Nobuo Uematsu, the legendary music composer best known for composing many Final Fantasy music tracks, will be composing the music for this game.

Probably the same reason why Solar Boy Django and Megaman.EXE are cameoed in each other's games: Exchanged for technology (MMBN 4+ and Boktai have the same graphics engine)

Well, I heard Snake's creator...or game supervisor...or someone affiliated with Snake practically begged the Super Smash bros. game creator to include Snake.
Thus, Snake was included.

Seems like all the elements of the "Ultimate Game" are coming together.
A buncha Nintendo characters and more duking it out
Legendary music composer Nobuo Uematsu doing the music
Experienced staff and developement team
Coming out for the Wii, so it will implement the best of it's graphics
And whatever else I forgot. It'll be awesome. 'nuff said.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Update
A new trailer has appeared for SSBB. The trailer features the previously stated characters fighting on new levels. One level looks like the F-zero Grand Prix level from SSBM, except Its based on Mario Kart and the racers are shyguys in go-karts.
Another level takes place in orbit above (earth?) on some type of skiff vessel. In the trailer, Samus is shown jumping in what appears to be slow-mo, apparently brought on by the reduced gravity.
A few more stages include a castle under siege type of battleground, a Yoshi's Island themed stage, a flying stage with Meta Knights airship, the Halberd, flying around (maybe it interacts with the course in some way), a pokemon stadium stage, and an underground sanctum type of stage, complete with strange-looking statues that support the platforms.
Pit's stage appears to have greek elements in the architecture of the course. Maybe it's heaven?
And finally, the moment you've been waiting for...character announcements!
Only one other character has been confirmed for SSBB. It's Fox, from the Starfox series. Starfox fans rejoice, and non-fans...well...uhh...you can look forward to beating the snot out of him.
